IELTS Writing Course: Lesson 3 - Topics

In lesson 1, we looked at the overall structure of an IELTS task 2 essay. In this lesson, we will look at turning your arguments into whole sentences and paragraphs. Let's imagine that you are given the following task 2 essay question: 'Some people believe that living in a city is preferable to living in the countryside while others strongly disagree. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.' When you are planning your arguments, you could use a diagram like the one in the picture below:

You can make notes like this on the question paper before you start writing. For computer-based tests, you may have to simplify the way you make notes on-screen.
